Dunston-born Henry "Harry" Clasper (1812-1870) was a former County Durham miner who won the world rowing championship eight times and designed the rowing boats used today in the Olympics.
Hadaway Harry recalls that first incredible victory of 1845 when the Geordie underdogs went to London and defeated the "unbeatable" Thamesmen.
It caused a national sensation.
Hadaway Harry made its debut performance at the boathouse of the North East Maritime Trust (NEMT), South Shields, in 2015, which was the beginning of a regional tour. Then in early 2017, Harry went down to the Capital; performances took place at the London Rowing Club, on Putney embankment, close to where Harry Clasper once rowed.
It went down a storm in London before it returned to home turf to be performed at the Theatre Royal Newcastle.
